3 Reasons to Only Sell on TpT (Not Ignite, TES, etc)

You've sold a product or two on TpT and you're hooked. Now, you want to make it big time. So, if you are selling this much on TpT, you could double that amount by selling on other sites like Ignite, TES, etc. Right?

A big fat wrong.

No way. Not even close.

Let me show you why.

The Huge Difference in Traffic

From direct search on Google, TpT got a total of about 80 million visits from Jan – March 2020. TES got about 20 Million visits. So TpT got 4 times the traffic that TES did. Amazon Ignite got 60 thousand visits. That’s like 1% of the traffic that TpT got, so we aren’t even going to discuss Amazon Ignite.

Social media clicks were even worse! TpT got 7.5 million clicks from social media. But, TES got 450K. That’s about 5% of the traffic that TpT gets. And you can imagine Amazon got basically nothing.

Still thinking you could make more money by selling on these other platforms?

Let’s talk about pages viewed once people are on the platform. This tells you a lot about how buyers see the quality of the products on the website.

On TpT the average buyer visited 10 pages. On TES, it was 3. (Makes you feel better about being on page 5 of TpT now, doesn’t it?) And as for Amazon, visitors went to a mere 2 pages.

If teachers are leaving fast, it means they aren't finding what they need. Which means they aren't going to take the time to find you.

Teachers will say it’s nice having less competition. But, it’s not really less competition, if it is less traffic.

The Workload

If you decide to sell on TpT and another site, what does that mean?

Uploading a cover and thumbnails, twice (which will probably require multiple sizes).

Inserting a description, twice.

Formatting the listing, twice.

Editing and Reuploading, twice.

Doing all the little tasks that we all hate-twice!

Without twice the traffic. With 1-5% of the traffic. Which means for twice the work, instead of 500 more people seeing your listing, 5 people are seeing your listing.

So, why in the world would you do this when the traffic isn’t there to support it and it is so much more work?

The Burnout Factor

In case for some reason none of that convinced you, there is also the burnout issue.

Every time you post a Pinterest, Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram graphic, you are going to have to decide where to send people. The same goes for your email list and blog posts.

Decision fatigue is real and it stops you from completing tasks every day simply because you don’t want to make another decision.

My point is that no matter which set of data you look at here, it is not going to be worth your time to keep up two (or more!) stores.

Not Twice as Nice

If it was as simple as you posting your ready made educational product twice and making twice the money, you should do it.

But the traffic isn’t there to support your efforts. However, don’t take this to mean that I don’t think you shouldn’t have your own store on your own website.

The bottom line? Always use data to make decisions in your business. If you don’t know how to find the data or analyze the data message me on Instagram or email me.
